Geri brings out exercise video despite bulimia ordeal

Geri Halliwell's decision to bring out a second yoga video after revealing she has suffered seriously from bulimia has alarmed eating disorder experts.

In her new autobiography, the 30-year-old former Spice Girl tells how the condition once reduced her to looking for food scraps in a rubbish bin.

Her new video is out on November 11 after the first sold 400,000 copies. 'My fear is that this will mislead people into thinking they can look like Geri just by doing a bit of yoga,' said psychotherapist Eileen Murphy.

'But I don't think she represents a healthy or a realistic role model. I don't know her or her habits, but she still appears to be as thin as she was when she admitted having bulimia. She is saying, "Yes, I have had bulimia, but buy this video and you can get a body like mine". It is a classic eating disorder conflict - the heart says one thing and the head says another.'

Ruth Quigley, a sports specialist at The Eating Problem Service, said: 'Yoga can be a healthy way to achieve a toned body. But it can be misused by those who drive themselves to exercise excessively because of an unrealistic image of how they should look.'

In her book, Geri says she reached her lowest point as she rummaged through a dustbin to find remnants of a chocolate cake at George Michael's Los Angeles home in November 2000. After that, she joined Overeaters Anonymous and still attends.

Since leaving the Spice Girls in 1998, she has shrunk from a Size 12 to a Size Six.

It is thought she does three hours of exercise daily and has a diet free from wheat, most carbohydrates and sugar.
