She's a 20th Century woman! Elle Fanning is hip in black harem trousers ahead of new movie's NYFF premiere
Her film 20th Century Women is about to ring in its world premiere at the New York Film Festival.
On Friday, the day before the big event, Elle Fanning was spotted celebrating with a bit of shopping, stepping into the Vera Wang boutique on Mercer Street.
The 18-year-old wore midnight blue drop crotch trousers that complemented her otherwise entirely black ensemble.
The woman in black: On Friday, Elle Fanning was spotted stepping out in the SoHo neighbourhood of Manhattan
Her platinum blonde hair fell free over a black leather jacket that featured a curving, studded collar and the image of a face obscured by fuzzy oversize sunglasses.
The younger sister of Dakota Fanning strolled through SoHo dangling a black leather purse from her arm.
She completed the outfit with tawny flats, which managed to match the rest of the outfit by way of black buckled straps. Metallic polish gleamed on her nails.

Look luxe in a Fendi leather jacket like Elle
Elle Fanning headed out for a bit of retail therapy when she was snapped outside the Vera Wang boutique in Manhattan.
Dressed in all black, the young actress flexed her sartorial chops in a pair of loose fitting harem pants and a turtleneck sweater. She completed her look with some buckled ballet flats, a tote bag and a Fendi leather jacket.
A leather topper is one of those perennial trends that will never go out of style, but Elle's is not just any old jacket. Her statement piece has a fur collar and studded trim as well as an embroidered patch that resembles the icon Mr. Karl Lagerfeld himself!

20th Century Women, which on Saturday will screen as the 'Centerpiece' of the New York Film Festival, features the Super 8 star alongside Annette Bening, Greta Gerwig Lucas Jade Zumann and Billy Crudup.
Written and directed by Mike Mills of Beginners acclaim, the film is set in 1979 and features Bening as the Zumann character's divorced mother and Fanning as his best friend. The Crudup and Gerwig characters share a shambolic house with the mother and son.
At the film festival, the director gave a press conference alongside Bening and Fanning. In a video uploaded by YouTube user GoldDerby, the The Neon Demon actress can be seen expounding on how she developed her character.
She noted that 'Mike said, you know, she's - I think she's based off of, like, girls that he knew growing up and things, you know, who were older than him, and would kind of, you know, these girls that would come to his room, like, drunk.'

Smiling, she continued that 'he'd really had these experiences, like, kind of smelling their smelly breath, and, like, they're so hot, but they're also so dirty, like, gro- like, physically dirty. So, we made that a thing - like, there, we could never get enough, like, oil in Julie's hair, 'cause she's just, you know - she has too many things to do.'
Adding that 'she lies a lot,' she explained: 'She has this very studious side, you know, that she shows to the parents, but then also this whole other side to her, that she, you know, she's very promiscuous and with a lot of boys, and - but I think that she kind of thrives on keeping those things secret, you know?'
She also dished that, during rehearsals, she and her castmates would play the game 'two lies and a truth' so that she could practise delivering falsehoods convincingly.' She was really good,' Mills quipped.
The film will open to a limited release in America on Christmas Day.
