Jermain Defoe could leave White Hart Lane as part of a deal that could see Everton's Andy Johnson moving in the opposite direction.

Johnson has had a troubled start to the season amid rumours of wanting to return down south to be closer to friends and family.

According to reports over the weekend Johnson has held crisis talks with Everton boss David Moyes over his poor form.

The News of the World claims that those discussions were amicable as the pair sought to resolve the striker's problems but that Moyes could be tempted to allow Johnson to leave if Defoe was part of the deal.

Defoe looks a certainty to leave Spurs in January if Martin Jol remains in charge and Tottenham are known to be long term admirers of Johnson.
