Lulu celebrates a wrinkle-free 60th birthday as she defies the ageing process

It was never an occasion she was going to shout about.

So it came as no surprise that Lulu opted for a low-key way to celebrate her 60th birthday - a shopping spree with a companion.

The singer spent the day browsing through the boutiques of Kensington before stopping for a spot of lunch. But she didn't appear to find a suitable outfit to mark her turning of age and returned from her outing empty handed.

Later yesterday, she appeared on Alan Titchmarsh's ITV show.

She credited dance lessons, yoga, walking and healthy eating, and said: 'To me, feeling good about yourself as you get older is all about your attitude. If you think you're old, you'll feel old.

'It's more important to be open about your experiences.'

The singer, who was born Marie McDonald McLaughlin Lawrie, has had some cosmetic work but earlier this year declared she was 'through with Botox'.

She added: 'I would consider surgery in the future but, as with everything, it's a case of going to the best person and having it done in moderation.'

After her busy day Lulu spent her birthday evening at the Music Industry Trusts' Awards 2008, held at Grosvenor House in London. She wore a black wrap with fur trim, teamed with black leggings and open toe stilettos.
