Steven Gerrard was summoned to England's team hotel in Hertfordshire on Sunday night after Fabio Capello flexed his muscles amid suspicions that he is not receiving the full support of Liverpool. Injuries have thrown Capello's plans for Wednesday's friendly in Germany into disarray, so much so that Frank Lampard is being tipped to captain the side if John Terry is ruled out by a foot injury. But Capello forced Gerrard to report for international duty hours after Liverpool issued a statement insisting their captain was out of action for 'seven to 10 days'.

Fabio Capello flexed his muscles last night and ordered Steven Gerrard to report for England duty. Liverpool had pulled Gerrard out of Wednesday's friendly in Germany, claiming he tore a groin muscle at Bolton on Saturday. But Capello refused to accept the club's diagnosis and demanded Gerrard report to the squad's base near Watford to be assessed by the FA's own medical staff.
