I don't need to join Spurs to fulfil my dreams, says Boro captain  Stewart Downing


Stewart Downing says he has no intention of quitting Middlesbrough.

The England winger was once again linked with an £11million move to Tottenham Hotspur this week.

But Boro boss Gareth Southgate will fight off interest from Harry Redknapp and Downing says he wants to stay on Teesside.

'It has been like that for the last couple of years and all players have to deal with it,' said the 24-year-old. 'You can't do anything to stop speculation.

'I have been here a long time and this is the club I want to play for.

'I feel I can fulfil my potential here. I signed a long-term deal last summer and my only aim is to get Middlesbrough into Europe and concentrate on that.'
