Tears in Hell's Kitchen: Anthea Turner distraught as husband Grant is sent home

Grant Bovey has become the second celebrity to be booted out of Hell’s Kitchen after Marco Pierre White accused him of not being a team player.

On hearing the verdict at the end of the show, Bovey's wife and fellow contestant Anthea Turner looked on from the kitchen and burst into tears.

Businessman Bovey looked surprised when told he was leaving as he had initially been one of the early favourites to win the show. He joins Shameless star Jody Latham, who became the show's first casualty on Sunday night.

As he prepared to leave, Grant hugged Marco before asking the celebrity chef to look after his wife.

He told the Mail: 'I'm disappointed, of course. But working that closely with Marco is difficult. Early on he really built me up. But that's what he's like. He catches you, reels you in and then lets you out.

'He has a very complex mind and he's a very unpredictable person. But he genuinely takes pride in what he does.

'You are operating on not much sleep. You are working maybe 16 or 17 hours a day and it gets the better of you in the end. I got on well with most of the people there although I thought Jody behaved completely inappropriately.

'He clearly insulted my wife and I would never have done that. I was surprised that I was able to work so well with Anthea in that environment. I thought we would bicker but we both ended up being very supportive.

'We stuck up for each other. I'm sad that I'm not with her this morning as I've been with her every minute of every day but I know that the girls and Bruce will take care of her.'

At the end of the night, which saw the contestants preparing dinner for Britain's Got Talent judges Piers Morgan and Amanda Holden, Marco confronted the contestants.

He said: 'Danielle you did well in service tonight but round this table you haven’t fought to stay in Hell’s Kitchen. Your failing is that you’re not strong enough, you are not tough enough even though it’s within you.'

'Niomi you work hard when you put your mind to it. You have a big personality. I’ve seen it but I’m not seeing it now.

'Grant, it was tough tonight but you pushed on, you gave it your all. Your one failing is that you didn’t show me any humility round this table tonight. In service you preferred to sink than ask for help. You are not a team player, that’s what you’ve proven to me tonight.'

Grant pleaded to stay saying: 'I would like to stay because I feel I’ve just moved into second gear and I feel I’ve got a lot more to give Marco and maybe get into fourth gear.'

Marco replied: 'You are a leader, you’re a boss – that kitchen is not big enough for two bosses. I am the boss of Hell’s Kitchen. Danielle, Niomi, you are both cooking with me tomorrow. Grant you’re sacked. Goodnight.'

Anthea sat on the kitchen floor in tears after hearing that her husband had been sent home.

Grant then asked Marco: 'Will you do me one small favour? ' Will you please make sure that Anthea is taken care of? Please take care of her for me.'

Marco replied: 'You have my word as a man, if Anthea is struggling emotionally, then I will help her - I will look after her you have my word.'

The pair then shook hands and hugged and Grant made his way to the kitchen to hug and kiss Anthea. As she cried he told her: 'Please be strong for me you promise me?'

On last night's show the celebrities were split into two teams. Adrian, Anthea and Linda were all asked to make separate sauces for meat while Niomi, Grant and Danielle had to make sauces for fish.

Leaders Adrian and Niomi then had to choose the best sauce from their team to complement their ingredients with Marco judging the winner.

Bruce was told to sit out of the challenge as he 'had nothing to prove' after he impressed Marco during the previous day's task.

Grant persuaded Niomi to nominate his sauce. Marco later said she should have picked Danielle's and eventually chose Adrian's team as the winers.

Niomi said about Grant: 'Had I have known he had never made a sauce before I don’t think I would have been so quick to listen to him over Danielle because he was talking like he knew what he was talking about.'

'Grant, you gave your opinion, gave your opinion, gave your opinion til I was like, sh*t maybe Grant’s right. I didn’t have space, do you understand what I mean?'

She said later: 'To pick his and then we lose with his as well I feel double p***ed with myself.'
