Best foot forward: Sao Paulo defender Miranda has been tipped for a move to Europe

Tottenham target  Joao Miranda de Souza has been urged to reject a move to England to form a 'Brazilian wall' at AC Milan.

Recent San Siro arrival Thiago Silva wants the 24-year-old Sao Paulo defender to follow his example by resisting the lure of the Barclays Premier League.

Silva claims he was approached by Chelsea before signing for Milan at the end of last year. He cannot play until next season, by which time he hopes to have Miranda alongside him in a reformed defence.

Spurs have reportedly kept tabs on Miranda, but the Italians are in pole position to sign him as they look for long-term replacements for Paolo Maldini, 39, and Alessandro Nesta, 33.

Silva said: 'Miranda is a great friend and we were together in the last Brazil squad. I'd be very happy if he was to join our team. We could really make a great partnership.'
