Eight out of ten wives fret over an unhealthy husband

Eight out of ten women are worried about their partner’s unhealthy lifestyle, a survey revealed yesterday.

Long stressful shifts at work, a lack of sleep and exercise and a poor diet are the main concerns for wives and girlfriends.

One in three women expressed fears their husband is under too much pressure at work, while one in four said their other half consumed too much fatty food.

Cause for concern: Although many wives worry about their husband's health, one third of women polled had not addressed the issue with their partner

The poll of 3,000 women by Engage Mutual Assurance also showed 37 per cent worry their partner is overweight.

Despite their concerns, one in three women has not mentioned their worries to their partner.

Four out of ten said they had managed to make subtle changes to their partner’s lifestyle without him realising it, such as buying more low-fat foods.

Some 20 per cent believe an unhealthy approach to life has meant their partner is less attractive.

Around 64 per cent blame his short temper for a bad atmosphere in the home.

Nine out of ten wives said they would prefer a partner on an average wage who looked after his health, rather than a high earner whose health suffered.

A spokesman for Engage Mutual said: ‘Maintaining a good work-life balance is particularly challenging in the current economic climate. The message seems to be, “Try and strike a balance”.’
