Calls grow for Kitty Brucknell to be kicked off The X Factor after she apologises for row with The Risk's Derry

Trouble seems to follow Kitty Brucknell wherever she goes, and following the latest race row fans have urged her to quit The X Factor.

The former Britney Spears impersonator has apologised to The Risk singer Derry Mensah after he claimed she made a racist remark towards him during an argument.

She denies making the remark but has written him a letter apologising for their row, saying she was so exhausted from rehearsals she didn't know what she was saying.

The incident took place when Mensah, 20, arrived at the show's Wembley  rehearsal room to do his vocals,  and asked Brucknell, 26, who sleeping on a sofa to move.

He told The Mirror: 'She was sleeping but I came in to do my vocals.

'Then she snapped and went off on one and called me a black b******. She was upset that I woke her up and she looked like she was going to cry.

'She apologised afterwards. But we don’t speak any more. It’s bad because she goes around saying she used to be bullied and then she says stuff like that to me.'

But an X Factor source today told Mail Online: 'She has apologised for their row, she wrote him a letter.

But the source added: 'She hasn't apologised for racially abusing him. She denies making a racist comment.'

Fans of the show have slammed the show's decision to keep her in, saying the backstage antics had gone too far.

One viewer said: 'I’m tired on a daily basis but never would I verbally abuse someone because of it or use it as an excuse.

'I think this is disgusting behaviour and the X Factor management should take this very seriously and not just give her a "firm talking to.."

'Behaviour like this should not be acceptable in any circumstance let alone still be happening in 2011. She has lost my vote!!!!!!!!'

Another fan simply said: 'Every week Louis says to Kitty "I don't know why people don't like you, I don't know why you're not connecting with the viewers"... Well Louis, now you know!'

A source told The Sun: 'Kitty did not apologise face-to-face because Derry didn't want to speak to her for obvious reasons.

Apology: Kitty Brucknell, right, has apologised to The Risk singer Derry Mensah for their row but claims to be unsure what she said during the spat

'In her letter, she said how sorry she was and that due to lack of sleep she might have said something offensive - but she wasn't sure because she was so tired.

'She told Derry she was really sorry for the argument and wants to be friends.'

After another singer who witnessed the row complained to Katie Hobbs, a member of the X Factor production staff, Brucknell was quizzed over the incident.

The source added: 'The producers gave Kitty a firm talking to after the incident.

'They tried to get it resolved as soon as possible because she was very upset.

'Since then, she's tried to be very friendly with Derry but he's not interested. They did used to talk and they got on well but she just snapped randomly.'

A show spokesperson said yesterday: 'There was an argument that was looked into by production. The matter was resolved.'

But despite their claims that the incident was 'resolved', viewers continued to discuss the topic on message boards.

One person claimed: 'If its true then SHE SHOULD GO!', while another fan said, 'I am a supporter of this woman and her vioce (sic), but this sort of incident is not acceptable, if she did use racially abusive language then i am sorry in my opinion she should be told to leave.

'No excuses open the door and let her go. shame for such a waste of talent, we all get tired but we do not go around abusing people of colour?'
