Warning: Christopher Foster had already threatened to kill someone before he murdered his family

Leaked police documents have shown that Christopher Foster, who murdered his family before killing himself, was allowed to keep guns, despite police knowing he had previously threatened to kill his accountant.

Foster, 50, made repeated threats against Tim Baker, 38, after a property deal in Cyprus collapsed, yet was given permission to keep a range of firearms.

Foster shot his wife and teenage daughter dead in 2008, and burnt down his £1.2 million home before dying from smoke inhalation.

In leaked police interview transcripts seen by the Daily Telegraph, Police were made aware Foster posed a danger as far back as 2006.

Baker told West Mercia Police that Foster had made 'several death threats' towards him after the failed deal. It has now emerged that police have opened a new investigation after complaints Foster should have had his firearms licences revoked.

Anne Giddings, 60, Foster's sister-in-law, of Wolverhampton, told a TV producer researching the incident: 'If his guns had been taken away then my sister and my niece would still be alive. The fact that he was allowed to keep those guns is absolutely terrible.'

Foster was plagued with financial problems leading up to the shooting, the inquest into his death showed he had assets of £3.1 million but debts of £4.4 million.

Foster held both a shotgun licence and firearms licence and kept six shotguns, a single barrel .22 calibre rifle, and a .22 air rifle.

A spokesman from West Mercia Police said: 'We can confirm there is a complaint under investigation which we received via the Independent Police Complaints Commission.'
