GOLD
More often seen in jewelry, gold can an effective topical treatment of inflammatory skin diseases
It's little wonder that gold has been used in medicine for hundreds of years – researchers Luigi Messori and Giordana Marcon at the University of Florence discovered gold complexes to have anti-inflammatory properties, making it a welcome remedy for painful conditions like Rheumatoid Arthritis.
More recently, a study published in nanoscience journal Nanoscale suggests that gold nanoparticles (tiny particles) can be used as an effective topical treatment of inflammatory skin diseases and now the metallic marvel is entering the realms of skincare with oils, creams, serums and masks all making the most of the gold rush for its calming qualities, promising to brighten the complexion over time.
Joanne Evans, one of the UK's top facialists and skincare ingredients specialist with over 25 years' experience as a skincare expert and aesthetician, says; 'Gold has great illuminating properties when used in makeup or skincare, which makes it good for light reflection and adding shimmer to the skin.'

DIAMONDS
We already know that diamonds are a girl's best friend, but the sparkly gem is shining in a whole new light. Rather than draping around our necks or dangling from our ears, diamonds can now be worn slathered into our skin due to their complexion boosting benefits.

The rocks are one of the latest in a line up of luxury skincare ingredients promising to deliver everything from smooth skin tone to eradication of wrinkles.
'Finely ground diamonds make for great exfoliation,' says Evans. The smooth edges meaning that they are not abrasive to the skin's surface – and diamond encrusted wands like the DiamondTome System are almost commonplace in beauty salons and clinics, used for their superior results.
As well as their exfoliating potential, diamond dust also has a high absorption rate, optimising the penetration of potent ingredients as well as reflecting light on the skin's surface, giving the appearance of a luminous skin tone.
Caviar is full of vitamins such as B6, B1, A D and E
CAVIAR
While most of us think of caviar as a delicious and decadent hors d'oeuvre (or something resembling frog's spawn), the skincare industry has other plans for the fishy treat.
In fact, Aldi's new Cuvee range follows the unprecedented success of its Caviar beauty range which went on sale in October 2015 and was a sell-out success, with over 60,000 units sold on launch day.
'Caviar is a brilliant skincare ingredient,' says Evans. 'It's full of vitamins such as B6, B1, A D and E. It's a super ingredient!
'It's great for anti-ageing as it really enriches the skin and it's good for oil or mature skin that is dehydrated and in need of revitalisation.'
Deficiency of crucial B6 and B1 vitamins can cause a multitude of skin complaints.

According to recent research by scientists from the University of Hiroshima, Vitamin B6 has anti-oxidative, anti-glycation and anti-inflammatory properties, and studies by the University of Maryland Medical Centre have shown that Vitamin E is crucial in the fight against free radical damage and that deficiency can speed up the formation of wrinkles.
CRUSHED PEARL
Thanks to pearl powder's high content of radiance-making proteins, you can find the star ingredient in skincare and make up alike
We all want a radiant complexion which shimmers in the sunlight – and what better way to get a pearlescent glow than with pearls themselves?
In traditional Chinese medicine, pearl powders were used to fight inflammation and to detox the body, and now thanks to pearl powder's high content of radiance-making proteins, you can find the star ingredient in skincare and makeup alike.
'Crushed pearls create an immediate shimmer on the skin and are great for adding luminosity,' says Evans.
The key ingredients in pearl's glow-getting powers is a protein called Conchiolin, which behaves like Keratin (one of the most important proteins found in the skin and hair) and hydrates the skin, accelerates cell metabolism and repair.
One study by Shao D.Z. published in the Journal of Cosmetic Science found that pearl had remarkable moisturising properties and also stimulates collagen production for a younger and plumper finish.
SILVER
Silver is an effective antiseptic so can be used to treat everything from breakouts to burns
It may not be considered as special as gold when it comes to jewellery but when it comes to skincare, silver is second to none.
'Silver has amazing antibacterial properties and has been used in men's shaving products for years,' explains Evans. 'Topical application of silver can really aid a clear complexion.'
In fact, a 2012 study found application of silver to be so effective an antiseptic, they recommended its use for topical treatment of burns, thrush and periodontitis.
So next time you want to indulge yourself with champagne, diamonds, or gold, you can do it without spending a fortune by putting these luxury ingredients on your face!
Aldi Lacura Cuveé Royal Collection goes on sale on 9th October in-store and online at aldi.co.uk, whilst stocks last.
