Get Cahill! AVB wants £8m stopper to fix Chelsea's leaky defence

Under-fire Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas is targeting a move for England centre back Gary Cahill as he looks to solve the club's defensive woes.

The Bolton star, 25, is out of contract in the summer so would therefore be available for a cut-price £8million when the transfer window opens in January, as Sportsmail revealed earlier this month.

Chelsea have conceded 17 goals in their opening 12 league games and kept just two clean sheets as they have struggled to adapt to Villas-Boas' tactics, with the Portuguese insisting that Chelsea operate a higher defensive line than under previous managers.

And with captain John Terry not getting any younger, David Luiz struggling for form and Alex expected to leave in January, Villas-Boas is keen to add to his central defensive options.

Struggling Bolton turned down bids from both Tottenham and Arsenal in the summer, but they are now willing to listen to offers for Cahill rather than risk losing their prize asset for free in the summer.
