Watch the birdie! Two-time Masters champ Jose Maria Olazabal is arrested after he is caught speeding outside Augusta

Though Bubba Watson was the golfer adding his name to the history books at this year's Masters, one of the former champions was the one speeding off into the sunset. Literally.

Two-time Masters winner Jose Maria Olazabal Manterola was  stopped by police for speeding on Monday as he was leaving the prestigious tournament.

The Spanish golfer was going 97 miles per hour- more than 30 miles over the legal limit for the area- on Georgia's route 21.

Though he apologized to the officer, he was taken to the Effingham County sheriff's office and booked before paying a $621 fine.

Good manners go a long way in the South, however, and  Olazabal was allowed to follow the officer in his own car.

The golfer said that he was leaving the famed Augusta National course after the weekend's ceremony and was headed to another tournament.

He has two green jackets of since he won the Masters in 1994 and 1999, so this trip was most certainly not his first trip to the neighborhood.

Olazabal, 48, turned pro in 1985 and was inducted to the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2009.

This is bound to be a big year for him as well because he will be the European captain of the Ryder Cup this September when it takes place at Medinah Country Club in Illinois.

Olazabal was born and raised in the Basque country of Spain.
