Not so innocent! Smoothie company's 'joke' about selling smack in response to comment about price of their drinks

Their marketing campaign is based on healthy living but smoothie company Innocent posted something far from wholesome on it's own Twitter page yesterday.

Twitter user Wee Slice posted that he was 'willing to wager that per millilitre Innocent smoothies are pricier than a vial of ready-to-shoot smack'.

Moments later Innocent posted a bizarre response to the crack cocaine 'bet' which read: 'We sell that too, just on the black market though.'

Innocent's tweet came at 12.54pm yesterday at around the same time Russell Brand told a home affairs select committee that society should regard people suffering from drug addiction with compassion.

The company's suggestion that it sells the illegal drug crack cocaine on the black market goes against everything Innocent stands for.

It's strapline on the website reads: 'We're here to make it easy for people to do themselves some good.'

The website also states that the business 'started making veg pots, juices and kids' drinks, in a 'quest to make natural, delicious, healthy foods that help people live well and die old.'

When contacted by MailOnline Innocent said it had not been hacked and admitted the post had been placed by a member of staff.

In a statement spokesman Anika Lewis said: 'We recognise that this is a totally inappropriate joke and that we shouldn't have made it. We're truly sorry if we've caused any offence.

'We've deleted the comment in question and will make sure this doesn't happen again.'

The company was established in 1999 when it started selling smoothies at music festivals.

Under the Ethics section of it's website it says: 'We take responsibility for the impact of our business on society and the environment, aiming to move these impacts from negative to neutral or (better still) positive.

'It's part of our quest to become a truly sustainable business where we have a net positive effect on the wonderful world around us.'
