She found fame playing the fiercely individual Lisbeth Salander in the American film adaption of Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.

And Rooney Mara is continuing to inhabit strong, independent characters.

But the 28-year-old actress' latest role is very different as she plays a confident young woman finding her place in the world in a new commercial for Calvin Klein's fragrance Downtown.

The ad was directed by David Fincher, who also worked with Rooney on The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.

The black-and-white video appears to follow a day or two in the life of a model or actress, or perhaps Rooney herself.

The star is seen engaging in a variety of everyday activities intermingled with glamorous photo shoots and press events.

The video - set to the song Runaway by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs - opens with Rooney pouring sugar into her coffee.

She is then seen walking next to a New York City subway wearing a black leather jacket while listening to music.

The camera then cuts to Rooney lying down as someone applies makeup to her face before she jumps up and down in an ethereal dress during a photo shoot next to what looks like the Brooklyn Bridge.

Scenes then flash by of her sleeping, dancing with children on the street and standing in the rain during another photo shoot.

Rooney then dons a slinky black dress as she sits onstage during a press conference while photographers and journalists go wild over her.

The video ends with a lingering shot of Rooney sitting in the backseat of a car looking wistfully out the window as she watches the nighttime city scenes pass her by.

Please burst. It's not that serious.. and if citing Audrey Hepburn here makes you this upset, please see a therapist. - Natasha , Wonderland, United States - Sweet dearest, thank you ever so much for proving my point on your senselessness. But thank you for your advice, I'll duly keep that in my insane mind.

I prefer Charleze Theron's Dior (the gold dress one) commercial

Perfume ads are so bad these days. Using celebrities in the recent years already cheapens it because the product becomes more of a personality type item. It says a lot about the generation today that we're sold on personalities and celebrity rather than the idea or story behind a product.

Mr Fincher is quite brilliant. He needs to hurry up and make a new movie though.

If one more blind and senseless person cites Audrey Hepburn here, I will burst. Nothing attractive about this woman propelled into the industry thanks to her daddy. Horrible body; like with Keira Knightley, for all their upper body skinniness, their lower bodies are disasters. And their faces are thinner than my arms.
