She is not shy about experimenting with her style and is known for often taking inspiration from characters.
But while Katy Perry often gets it right with her wacky wardrobe, on Monday the singer missed the mark when she dressed in an Austin Powers-inspired outfit.
Looking anything but groovy baby the 28-year-old stepped out with a large ruffled cravat on her bright plaid dress as she left a recording studio in Hollywood.

While the long-sleeved red dress wasn’t too bad on its own, the bright white collar detail couldn’t be missed.[related]
Her hair, which is currently a very dark brown, was worn loose and she completed her outfit with a pair of hoop earrings which didn’t really fit in with the rest of her look.
While Katy is currently believed to be recording new music, the songwriter behind her track Teenage Dream recently admitted that she almost didn’t give the song up.
Eye catching: Katy's plaid dress also really stood out showing off her eclectic sense of style
Bonnie McKee, who has co-written some of the star’s biggest hit, told US radio station 92.3 Now this week:
‘I loved Teenage Dream. I think that was my favourite one.
‘That was a hard one for me to give up because I've had that teenage theme kind of throughout my music.’
Meanwhile it’s not just music that Katy, who is thought to be back with John Mayer, has been working on.

The Firework singer is set to release her third perfume – Killer Queen – next month, inspired by Queen singer Freddie Mercury.
Speaking about the fragrance to Women’s Wear Daily, she said: ‘Killer Queen has been in my vocabulary since I was 15, because of the song Killer Queen by Queen.
'Freddie Mercury painted the lyrics of this woman who I wanted to be. She seemed very powerful, and she captivated a room when she walked in. I named my company Killer Queen after those lyrics.
‘I feel like, after all this time, it was appropriate to use that name in association with something I did. I feel like I’m falling, finally, into that woman Freddie painted.’
