She made headlines recently when she announced she was pulling her two children out of public school amid fears that toxic chemicals were polluting the campus.

But on Saturday, Cindy Crawford put those troubles behind her as she accompanied son Presley,
15, and his young female friend on a fun day out at the annual Malibu Chili Cook-Off.

The trio looked happy and relaxed as they strolled the fair together.

The 48-year-old beauty chose a strappy, black and white sundress with a slit to the thigh for the event.

She kept her face covered from the sun with a wide brimmed hat and sunglasses. But her trademark mole above her lip was clearly visible. On her feet, 5ft 9in Cindy wore sensible flipflops.

The group were seen laughing and smiling together in the sunshine and were later joined by Cindy's husband, Rande Gerber.

Just two weeks ago, Cindy - who has been married to businessman Rande Gerber since 1998 - told NBC's Today show of her decision to pull children Presley and Kaia, 12, from the local public school.

It came after three teachers were diagnosed with the relatively rare thyroid cancer and testing revealed high levels of the cancer causing chemical PCB found in material used to fit classroom windows.

'I look 10 years down the line,' she told interviewer Maria Shriver. 'What if my kid, God forbid, had a problem?

'How could I live with myself, if I knew that it was a possibility, and I still sent them to school there?'

She's a cool mom! There was no danger of Presley or his friend feeling embarrassed by being chaperoned by the supermodel, the trio clearly having a great time as they strolled around the event together

Cindy, who is one of several parents to remove their children, offered to pay for regular, thorough testing.

She added: “I don’t feel 100 per cent safe.

'I think that air testing and wipe testings are a great piece of the puzzle. Unless they're testing every day, how do I know that every day it's safe for my kid?'

Another model and Malibu resident Brooke Burke, who coincidentally fought thyroid cancer last year, was also pictured arriving at the Cook-Off with three of her four children.

The 42-year-old, who is married to the French singer and model David Charvet, smiled as she walked alongside two of her three daughters and her young son, Shaya.

Brooke was sporting a dramatic new short bob. Her thick brunette locks, which days earlier cascaded down her back, had been lopped to above her shoulders.
