Police investigating the abduction and four-hour rape of a schoolgirl, 14, reveal they did NOT activate a child rescue warning despite being told she had been kidnapped just 15 minutes after she disappeared
- Young girl was bundled into a car as she walked to school in the morning
- The victim was then subjected to horrific rape ordeal in nearby woodland
- Police said there was insufficient information to activate Child Rescue Alert
Detectives investigating the abduction and rape of a schoolgirl today admitted they did not activate a child rescue alert despite being told she had been kidnapped just 15 minutes earlier.
The 14-year-old was walking to school along Marston Ferry Road in Oxford when she was approached by a man who gave her a 'bear hug' before bundling her into a silver coloured VW hatchback.
The alarm was raised at 8.51am by her mother and school, just minutes after she vanished last Wednesday (September 28) - however Detective Superintendent Chris Ward claimed there was insufficient information at the time to activate a Child Rescue Alert.

Her mother and her school phoned 999 almost immediately, however she was not found for another three hours, when police found her knocking on the doors of homes in nearby Marston, pleading for help.
Plain clothes police and paramedics turned up around midday and found the traumatised schoolgirl sitting on a wall using her phone.
A team of specially trained officers interviewed the girl at Oxford Police Station where she revealed she had been kidnapped and raped.
Some 30 police officers have worked on the case while specialist officers from the National Crime Agency have also stepped in to help the investigation.
Det Supt Ward said he was 'unable to provide any additional details of the operational activities', adding: 'We immediately followed the national guidelines for responding to a kidnap and a significant response following those guidelines was commenced.
'There was insufficient information at that time to activate a Child Rescue Alert. It is also not always appropriate to issue this kind of alert in the event of a child kidnap as this could put the child at further risk.'

He added: 'At noon we were informed of a child trying to gain entry into a house in the Marston area and two officers were deployed to assist.
'The victim was brought to Oxford Police Station. She disclosed that she had been abducted and raped by two men. During the afternoon she was interviewed by specially trained officers who worked with the victim to clarify her account.
'Working with a young victim who has been through a traumatic experience can be a very slow process.
'Our area of investigative focus continues to be around the Summertown and Marston areas, and we will continue to follow the evidence in order to bring any offenders to justice.'
Officers say the girl has given a description of her attacker as a 'blonde man with blue eyes'
He said the Oxford City neighbourhood team was providing high visibility patrols and making themselves accessible to members of the public, while police continue to review 'huge quantities' of CCTV content from the Summertown and Marston areas.
Police have responded to more than 260 calls from the public who have phoned in with information.
Both men were described as aged in their late teens or early 20s with the first described as being 6ft 2ins tall who had broad shoulders and a muscular build.
He had brown medium length scruffy hair, was clean shaven and wearing a short sleeved black top, black jeans and had a gold signet ring ring on his left hand.
The second attacker was described as shorter, between 5ft 9ins and 5ft 10ins tall and of a fatter build, with short blonde hair, clean shaven and wearing black jeans.
