Forget hopes of a few hours’ peace as the children put together Lego or play with model cars, this year’s must-have toys threaten to turn Christmas into a war zone.
For a new range of Star Wars-inspired toys include saucer-sized drones capable of flying at 50mph.
Powered by four propellers the mini flying machines are also armed with lasers and intended to allow users to group together to recreate the intergalactic battles seen in the Star Wars films as a drone slowly spirals to the ground after being hit three times.

They are being launched in December to coincide with the release of the latest Star Wars film, Rogue One, a prequel to the original trilogy
Although intended for outdoor use by over-14s with experience of flying drones, the prospect of them being used to buzz granny as she tucks into a mince pie has prompted safety fears.

And while each drone in the range – the Millennium Falcon, a T-65 X-Wing fighter, Darth Vader’s Tie Advanced X1, and a speeder bike from Return Of The Jedi – costs £199, Hamleys has put them in its Fabulous Five toys it expects to be on Christmas wish-lists this year.
The store’s list includes two even more expensive toys, headed by the £500 Alpha 1S Robot that can sing, dance and do somersaults.
There will be four models available - an X-Wing (pictured), Darth Vader's TIE Advanced X1, the Millennium Falcon and an Imperial speederbike
Each model costs £199 and they are intended for use by children aged 14 and over

For £300 there is the two-seater electric BMW Beachcomber for under-fives. Completing the list are an Iron Man mask with glowing eyes at £167 and a 2ft diameter Captain America shield at £153.
Meanwhile a jelly bean game that makes losers eat sweets which taste like rotten fish is among the presents set to feature in the top presents list.

50MPH STAR WARS DRONES
Star Wars fans young and old will soon be able to stage mid-air battles between the Jedi and the Sith using drones.
Set to be one of the hottest toys this Christmas, the new range of quadcopter drones features four iconic vehicles from the beloved sci-fi series, including the Millennium Falcon and Darth Vader’s TIE-fighter. The devices, which shoot lasers, can reach speeds of more than 50mph.
But the hi-tech gadgetry comes at a cost. Each drone will set you back £200.
Meanwhile, the fourth edition of the BeanBoozled spinner game, also £25, will have players risking eating jelly beans flavoured to taste like rotten fish and spoiled milk.
The store predicts that Star Wars will remain a likely top seller, with a £15 C-3PO-inspired virtual reality headset that works with the Star Wars website predicted to prove a hit with youngsters.
The £80 Star Wars Krennic’s Imperial Shuttle is this season’s must-have offering from Lego, allowing the recreation of scenes from the forthcoming film Rogue One.
The £90 Nerf Mega Mastodon is the first motorised blaster in the range, and comes complete with a shoulder strap and 24 darts.
Children who enjoy gentler pastimes might find a £50 DreamWorks Trolls Hug Time Poppy under the tree, which can speak 25 phrases on a press of its tummy and plays songs from the film in which it starred.

The £70 Paw Patrol Zoomer talks, moves on its own and responds to touch and movement and the £50 Fisher-Price Think and Learn Code-A-Pillar gives children aged three and up the chance to spend their Christmas developing skills like problem solving, planning and sequencing and critical thinking.
The ever-popular V-Tech Kidizoom Smart Watch is also back in the top 10, and the £43 gadget for youngsters aged four and up allows them to monitor their activity with a pedometer.
Hamleys also believes its £20 Magic Showcase set, which includes an app allowing children to perform 3D interactive tricks with a phone or tablet, will be a top seller.
