Holland 4-1 Belarus: Vincent Janssen stunner caps dominant display

  • Vincent Janssen's cross found Quincy Promes who struck from 15 yards
  • Promes added a second with a deflected volley from the edge of the box
  • Midfielder Alexei Rios pulled one back with a neat finish at the near post
  • Davy Klaassen pounced on a rebound to restore Holland's two-goal lead
  • Janssen beat two defenders before unleashing a magnificent strike

Tottenham striker Vincent Janssen produced the finest of strikes as Holland eased past Belarus to rise to the top of Group A.

The Dutch, who finished third at the last World Cup in Brazil but failed to qualify for Euro 2016, ended an unprecedented run of five successive home defeats stretching back 16 months.

The home side started brightly, Janssen providing the scruffiest of assists from the right, with his pass bouncing off various Belarus players' legs before falling to Quincy Promes, who found space to beat the visiting keeper at the near post.

The midfielder added a second as he connected nicely with a falling ball on the edge of the box, his first-time volley taking a slight deflection en route to the bottom corner.

Belarus started the second half strongly, threatening with two good chances before they were rewarded through a tidy finish from Alexei Rios.

The midfielder barged in front of his marker to the low cross from Sergei Kornilenko on the left and finish past Maarten Stekelenburg.

Their comeback was short-lived, however, as Davy Klaassen was in the right place at the right time to pounce on a rebound inside the box and fire past Gorbunov to restore Holland's two-goal lead.

The goal knocked the wind out of the visitor's sails and Janssen capitalised after being denied by the woodwork.

The forward weaved his way past two defenders before unleashing a stunning left footed effort into the top right corner from the edge of the box.

His team moved to four points from their opening two qualifiers after a draw in Sweden last month. They host France in Amsterdam on Monday.
