Barclaycard launches new credit card for travellers wanting to cut those holiday bills

Barclaycard has launched a new credit card to use abroad.

Unlike most credit cards, which charge an extra fee for spending in shops and withdrawing cash, the new Platinum travel card has no fee until the end of August 2018.

After that, a 2.99 per cent fee will apply on every transaction, so you may want to find a new card then.

Remember that if you don't pay off your balance each month, you will be charged interest at 11.9 per cent on regular spending and 27.9 per cent on cash withdrawals.

One of the best cards for overseas spending is still Halifax's Clarity Credit Card. This has no charges for spending anywhere in the world, but there is an 18.9 per cent rate of interest.

Debit card customers can also be hit with a range of big charges for using their cards overseas.

However, Metro Bank does not charge fees for cash withdrawals in Europe.

Outside Europe, with the Metro Bank card you will pay a transaction fee of 2.5 per cent and a £1.50-a-time charge to take money out of a cash machine.

Metro Bank's branches are based in the South-East and London at present.

Norwich and Peterborough BS's Gold Classic current account has a debit card that is fee-free worldwide.

There is a £5 a month charge if you pay in less than £500 a month or keep less than £5,000.
