'This has become a parody of itself': Larry King, Rosie O'Donnell and Chelsea Handler lead dismayed stars as they react to presidential debate
- Among the millions reacting to Sunday's debate were countless stars
- They were dismayed by Trump's performance and most backed Clinton
- Some however declared him the winner after the debate concluded
- Moderators Martha Raddatz and Anderson Cooper won wide praise
Among the millions who tuned in to the second presidential debate on Sunday were scores of stars eagerly watching to see who would clinch victory.
Hollywood heavyweights, sports personalities and star musicians were among those to offer their commentary on the exchange between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton.
They were divided in their verdicts. Some declared Trump the comfortable winner while others religiously cheered Hillary on throughout.
Almost all were dismayed by Trump's attempt to apologize for comments he made in 2005 that were introduced by moderator Anderson Cooper within minutes of the debate's start.
The jury's out: Stars were undecided in their assessment of Sunday's debate. Most condemned Trumps' 'locker room' comments about sexual assault but some still declared him the winner
Trump described his boasts that he could 'grab' women 'by the p****' as 'locker room talk'.
'Locker room talk = things that sexual assaulters say?' asked TV writer Shonda Rhimes.
Star Trek's George Takei said his attitude defended 'the very culture that normalizes sexual assaults on women.'
Chelsea Handler, one of his most outspoken critics, fumed: 'Locker room talk? You're not on a team,' while Maria Shriver, the former wife of California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, said: 'He doesn't get it.'
Clinton won their support on other topics and their concern when Trump stood behind her 'menacingly' to watch her answer questions.
'Trump HOVERING is very menacing,' said actress Debra Messing.
Larry King offered his view of the state of affairs, describing the election as a 'parody of itself'. He was met by the confronting tweets of Rosie O'Donnell, one of Trump's most vocal opponents
Others were downright dismayed with the proceedings as a whole and expressed as much
Some however declared him the overall winner, suggesting Clinton did not go hard enough after some of his claims.
'Trump won. He escaped the boot on the throat. And she let him off the hook,' said Ben Shapiro.
Piers Morgan added: 'I'd say Donald Trump won that debate comfortably. Bounced back strongly off the sex-tape ropes.
'I'd say he answered most questions pretty directly & landed lots of effective blows on Hillary. Trump won. Just as she won the 1st one.'
Former Miss Universe Alicia Machdo - who became a focal point of the first debate - watched with a cocktail
The majority sided with Clinton on most questions, slamming Trump's description of his 2005 comments towards women as 'locker room talk'
Others declared Trump the winner including columnist Piers Morgan and Ben Shapiro
Jon Voight, who earlier in the day gave a scathing assessment of Robert de Niro for his public slamming of Trump, stayed quiet.
Beyond which of the candidate's won the debate, many of those who tuned in were left disappointed, amused and embarrassed by its events.
'This presidential race has become a parody of itself,' said Larry King.
There was overwhelming approval for the debate's moderators Anderson Cooper and Martha Raddatz.
'Y'all, watching Martha Raddatz do her thing is magical. MAGICAL. She can't deal with the stupidity,' said Shonda Rhimes.
The clear winners were moderators Martha Raddatz and Anderson Cooper
'Is Martha Raddatz winning this debate?' asked comedian Trevor Noah while Ne-Yo remarked: 'We gotta have Anderson Cooper moderate all debates.'
Among those to have chimed in was Alicia Machado, a former Miss Universe who was labeled 'Miss Piggy' by Trump.
She was named and present at the first presidential debate by Hillary Clinton for whom she is an advocate.
Sharing a typically glamorous photograph of herself on Twitter, Machado posed with a cocktail before the debate got underway.
'Watching the debate with my mojito! Trying to understand how this guy is so simpleminded! He is a disaster,' she wrote.
Others reacted with comedy. Among them was daytime talk show host Jerry Springer who invited Trump and his running mate Mike Pence onto his show.
