'I think certain women are more beautiful than others, to be perfectly honest, and it is fortunate that I don't have to run for political office.

'But I do have a level of popularity and frankly it's not the image I want, the image I want is that I'm doing great in business.'

The 70-year-old businessman, who is known for his role on The Apprentice US, made the comments during a short visit to Auckland to make a casino licence application.

The footage emerged just as he prepares to take on his rival Hillary Clinton in the second presidential debate at Washington University in St. Louis.

Mr Trump's treatment of women has been a source of controversy throughout his campaign to the White House and has often been labelled as 'sexist'.

Calls for the Republican nominee to step down were sparked after video obtained by The Washington Post captured a newlywed Mr Trump about his attempts to seduce a married woman and boasting about how being a 'star' means he can get away with 'anything' when trying to bed a woman.

'I moved on her and I failed. I'll admit it. I did try and f*** her. She was married', the businessman said in the recording.

'And I moved on her very heavily. In fact, I took her out furniture shopping. She wanted to get some furniture. I said, "I'll show you where they have some nice furniture".

'I moved on her like a b***h, but I couldn’t get there. And she was married.

'Then all of a sudden I see her, she's now got the big phony t*ts and everything. She's totally changed her look.'
