Former Grey's Anatomy actress Sara Ramirez has confirmed she is bisexual with an Instagram post on Saturday.

Ramirez, 41, who married banker Ryan DeBolt in 2012, 'came out' in her speech at the True Colors Fund 40 To None Summit in Los Angeles, and then posted an extract of that speech to Instagram.

She identified herself as 'queer, bisexual' as she described all the 'intersections that exist in my own life' at the event that focuses on ways to end homelessness among LGBT youth.

The Mexico-born actress spent 10 years playing the bisexual character Dr. Callie Torres on ABC's Grey's Anatomy before leaving the show this year.

Just three weeks ago, she cut off her long brunette locks and shared a selfie showing her new buzzcut with her social media followers, saying it was time for a change.

Ramirez, who is a board member for True Colors Fund,'shared her truth' at the summit.

'So many of our youth experiencing homelessness are youth whose lives touch on many intersections – whether they be gender identity, gender expression, race, class, sexual orientation, religion, citizenship status,' she said in the excerpt posted to her Instagram.

'And, because of the intersections that exist in my own life: Woman, multi-racial woman, woman of color, queer, bisexual, Mexican-Irish American, immigrant, and raised by families heavily rooted in Catholicism on both my Mexican & Irish sides, I am deeply invested in projects that allow our youth’s voices to be heard, and that support our youth in owning their own complex narratives so that we can show up for them in the ways they need us to.'
