Clash Of The Titans: Sam Worthington brings glamorous  girlfriend to premiere... as dramatic film stills are released

His arm wrapped protectively around his pretty girlfriend, Sam Worthington looked every inch the gentleman as walked the red carpet today.

He and Australian stylist Natalie Mark were among the guests at the Los Angeles premiere of his new film Clash Of the Titans.

But as stills from the film show, on-screen Worthington, 33, is transformed into an fearsome action hero.

In the movie he plays Greek demi-God Perseus, the son of Zeus, played by Liam Neeson.

He battles the vengeful underworld God Hades, played by Ralph Fiennes, to save the city of Atlantis from destruction.

In an impractical outfit of leather sandals, flared skirt and body armour, Perseus must fight a series of battles on a epic journey to defeat the Kraken.

He faces the snake-haired monster Medusa, hordes of giant scorions and outwits the three witches.

Bond Girl Gemma Arterton, 24, plays Worthington's love interest Io, the immortal who guides him on his journey.

The film is a remake of the 1981 original, and at today's premiere Worthington was joined by the original Perseus, Harry Hamlin.

Frock star: Hamlin was accompanied by wife Lisa Rinna while Clash of the Titans cast member Alexa Davalos looked a picture of style in a full length gown

For Worthington it was the second 3D film he had made and he says he learnt a lot from his experiences in the blockbuster Avatar.

'You can't act with nothing,' he says. 'It's impossible.

'So we built a big fibreglass scorpion and we had guys dressed up in green suits. Anything to react off made our job easier.'

The Titans was partly filmed on location in Wales, but Worthington isn't a fan of the country.

'I love the Welsh and Wales is a beautiful place,' he told the Daily Star. 'but not when it's a f****** slate mine with rain pouring down.

'You know you're in trouble when everyone around you is wearing a hard hat and things are falling off.. and you're just standing there in your dress.'

Clash Of The Titans is released tomorrow, April 2.
