The pocket watch you can wear on your wrist

LUC Louis-Ulysee pocket watch

The 49.6mm diameter casing is on the large side for a wristwatch - and be warned, it's also hand-wound rather than automatic... Just add a chain if you want to use it as a pocket watch. Oddly, it's waterproof to 30m in case you go swimming in your waistcoat

Even two years ago, wearing a pocket watch made you look like a time traveller from a previous century, or worse, a half-crazed fashionista. But with Richard Mille, Hermès and Mont Blanc bringing out models this year, pocket watches appear to be edging back into the normal world.

The LUC Louis-Ulysse pocket watch

Swiss jewellery house Chopard, though, is hedging its bets  -  its LUC Louis-Ulysse transforms from a pocket watch into a (rather large) wristwatch simply by clipping it on to a wrist strap.

It has a pocket watch movement designed in collaboration with the Geneva Watchmaking School and is based on a Chopard patent from 1912 for a 'convertible' model.

Of course, buying a wristwatch and a separate pocket watch might be a cheaper option  -  the LUC Louis-Ulysse costs £29,690.
