Wanted: Javi Marquez (left) in action for Espanyol

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp is in the hunt for Espanyol playmaker Javi Marquez, according to Spanish newspaper AS.

White Hart Lane officials are set to visit Spain next week to negotiate a deal to bring the diminutive star to north London, the paper claims.

Marquez, who can play centrally, out wide or just behind the front men, is one of Espanyol's most important players but his season was ended prematurely after suffering a broken leg in March.

But despite the injury, Marquez, 23, is expected to be sidelined until June leaving him fit for the new campaign.

Spurs are chasing a place in the Champions League and versatile midfielder Marquez could provide classy competition for the likes of Luka Modric and Tom Huddlestone in the centre of the park in Europe next season.
