Packing a punch: Kill Bill star Uma Thurman is back at her fighting best on the New York set of Smash

It's been nearly a decade since she first donned her yellow jumpsuit in the Quentin Tarantino hit film, Kill Bill.

Now - as the third installment of the movie series nears - Uma Thurman is sharpening her fighting skills on the streets of New York.

The 41-year-old actress landed a punch on actor Jerry O'Connell while filming Smash, a new US TV series, in Brooklyn Heights on Monday.

The actress hit her co-star, presumably as part of the storyline.

Dressed in a brown and cream aviator jacket, black trousers and a red beret she appeared to be playing a courier who delivered a punch, right after she handed over a package.

Smash is a new TV series and musical that is due to premiere on NBC in the US next month.

It is the behind-the-scenes look at a team preparing to put on a Broadway musical about the life of Marilyn Monroe.

The series boasts an impressive cast that includes former Will & Grace star Debra Messing, English actor Jack Davenport and Hollywood veteran Anjelica Huston.

So far Uma only seems to be earmarked to appear in one episode of the new TV show.

The mum-of-two recently opened up to the UK edition of Harper's Bazaar about her career.

The former model said in the February issue: 'Acting was a place where I could fit in with those who didn’t fit in.

'People who grow too fast usually have a very long awkward phase.

'Mine ended around 35.'

The Pulp Fiction actress also stars opposite Robert Pattinson in the period drama Bel Ami.

She told Harper's Bazaar: 'To answer the ubiquitous question about this movie, yes, Robert is good-looking in person.

'But he doesn’t have that diamond-sparkle skin like in those Dracula movies,'

Uma has two children with her ex-husband, actor Ethan Hawke.

The former couple were married for six years and are parents to a 13-year-old girl, Maya, and a ten-year-old boy, Roan.

Kill Bill: Vol.3 will be released in 2014.
