Can you make sense of it? Ancient Parisian palace is flipped 'upside down' in vast optical illusion
- Designer Pierre Delavie used a canvas almost 13,000 square foot in size to cover Paris' Conciergerie
- The image on the canvas creates the illusion that the building's interior halls have been turned upside down
- It was created to mark the city's annual Nuit Blanche festival - an-all night celebration of art and culture
An old building in Paris has just been given a somewhat unusual makeover.
Designer Pierre Delavie has used a canvas almost 13,000 square feet in size to create an optical illusion on the landmark Conciergerie building, located on the Ile de la Cite overlooking the Seine.
Describing it as an 'urban lie' intended to confuse viewers, Mr Delavie created it for the annual Nuit Blanche festival - an all-night celebration of art and culture that took place earlier this month - using a giant image on the canvas to give the illusion of the facade being upside down.

The building he transformed is now used as a court of law but was once a prison responsible for executing hundreds of inmates by guillotine during the French Revolution.
It traces its roots all the way back, however, to the 10th century, when it served as a palace for medieval kings.
According to French media outlet 20 Minutes, Mr Delavie says of his installation: 'I play with people's eyes. Even if the work is large and impressive, it relies mainly on existing geography of the city.
'I want to create a moment of confusion. The moment we feel that everything can change, that's what I want.'
He also mentioned that he had been keen to explore the theme of 'rising water' as an omen to climate change.
The Nuit Blanche festival is held every year from 7pm to 7am on the first Saturday in October, and is free to attend. Following it, Mr Delavie's canvas is being removed and cut up into pieces to sell off at auction for charity, reports Designboom.
