The latest episode of Poldark offered viewers one of the steamiest scenes yet with heartthrob Aidan Turner seducing his wife - and thousands of viewers - with a pair of stockings.

Turner's Ross Poldark sizzled at the end of the hour-long Sunday night installment when he wooed his wife Demelza (Eleanor Tomlinson) as she was getting dressed. 

The racy soft-focused scene saw Turner fans getting hot and bothered as Winston Graham's Cornish hero gently helped his wife put on the hosiery before passionately embracing her.

The scene's killer moment, which was so softly lit viewers had to strain their eyes to see it, involved the gentle-handed Poldark rolling up the stockings on his wife's legs. 

'Sale of stockings to rise in foreseeable future!' quipped one user, ‏@Bonlet, while another, ‏@jojocooper568, said: 'Typical man though eh Ross...buy a girl stockings  and you think all is forgotten, eh? Hmm...well...maybe....just this once.'

Elsewhere, some social media users could hardly contain themselves. ‏@mandyjayn cooed: 'Oh Ross... you can tie a blue ribbon around my stockings any day.'

The steamy scene prompted hundreds of tweets on Twitter, with many willing to forgive Poldark's recent bad behaviour

@mserinkelly quipped: 'Just off to recreate that stockings scene with my husband wearing his best fleece.'

The episode saw Poldark and Demelza passionately reunited after a tricky period in their marriage following the Cornish hero almost being jailed to a debtor's prison and Ross' clear sexual attraction to Francis. 

There was also the small matter of suggesting his wife would take more kindly to hardship than Elizabeth because she was merely a 'miner's daughter.'

Plot aside, much of the Poldark-related tweets surfacing since the show's airing weren't about Graham's lead protagonist's poor behaviour, more how seductive Aidan Turner looked while helping his wife with her hosiery.

Although some fans became fixated with the idea that the scything hunk only focused on one leg.
