He has been on the promotional trail for The Accountant in New York City ahead of its release on Friday.

But Ben Affleck proved his family comes first, as he was back in Los Angeles in time for the school run on Monday.

The actor and his estranged wife Jennifer Garner, both 44, were seen walking home together in Brentwood, California after dropping their brood at school.

Ben and Jennifer separated 15 months ago but continue to live together, and neither of them have filed divorce papers.

And the pair looked very friendly as they chatted away while strolling side by side.

At one point Jennifer, who was wearing glamorous eye make-up, was seen wiping her eyes with a tissue.

The Miracles From Heaven star was dressed casually in a white T-shirt and slip-on shoes with jeans and a grey jacket.

Meanwhile Ben wore a black leather jacket over an olive green T-shirt, dark jeans and grey trainers.

Last week the Batman v Superman star was promoting The Accountant in the Big Apple, and made an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

While Ben was in New York, Jennifer took care of the children in LA.

The former couple share daughters Violet, 10, and Seraphina, seven, and four-year-old son Samuel.

Ben and Jennifer announced their separation on June 30, 2015, one day after their tenth wedding anniversary.

However they are regularly spotted together, including on outings without the kids, sparking rumours they could be reconciling.

And last week, it was claimed by InTouch that Ben's mother Christine Boldt is pleading with Jennifer to 'halt the divorce proceedings' and make the marriage work.

Earlier this year, Jennifer took the brood to Europe so that the youngsters could be with their father while he filmed Justice League, in which he is reprising his role as Batman.

'It has to be [a good relationship], you don't have a choice,' she said during an appearance on the Today show in August. 'We are definitely a modern family. We're doing really well.'

She added: 'Ben was working in London on Justice League, and I thought, "Well, the kids should have that experience." He and I are great friends, and we all just went en masse.'
