A spokesman for Hillary Clinton lost his cool during last night's debate, tweeting a choice word at Donald Trump. 

'Hey, @DonaldTrump – regarding your claim that Captain Khan would be alive if you were president: go f*** yourself,' said Jesse Lehrich, a foreign policy spokesman for Clinton.

The aide soon said the comment was 'inappropriate' and apologized for his behavior - which he tried to distance from his boss.

Army Captain Humayun Khan died in Iraq in 2004. His parents, Khizr and Gazala, spoke out against Trump and his proposed Muslim immigration ban in July at the Democratic National Convention.

Trump has changed his position and now supports wants to temporarily bar persons from countries at a high risk for terrorism from entering the country.

At Sunday's debate he was asked if the proposed religious test was a 'mistake' now that he no longer supports it.

'First of all, Captain Kahn is an American hero and if I were president at this time, he would be alive today because unlike her, who voted for the war without knowing what she was doing, I would not have had our people in Iraq,' he said, lambasting Clinton. 'Iraq was a disaster.'

He added, 'So he would have been alive today.'

'The Muslim ban is something that in some form has morphed into a extreme vetting. From certain areas of the world.'

Clinton had earlier bashed him for going to battle with Mr. and Mrs. Khan. 

'He never apologizes to anyone for anything,' she had charged. 'He never apologized to Mr. And Mrs. Khan, the Gold Star family whose son died in the line of duty, and Donald insulted and attacked them for weeks over their religion.' 

As Trump turned the attack on her and said Captain Khan would still be 'alive today' if he'd been commander in chief at the time of the Iraq War, when Republican George W. Bush was in the Oval Office, Clinton's foreign policy spokesman fired off on Twitter. 

A half hour later, Lehrich said sent another tweet saying, 'I want to apologize for the clearly inappropriate nature and language of this personal tweet. Sorry all.'
