Now Wikileaks reveals how Bill Clinton's closest adviser called Chelsea 'a spoiled brat' and accused her of leaving foundation staff member close to suicide

  • Doug Band, one of Bill Clinton's top aides, mouthed off about Chelsea Clinton in new emails exposed by Wikileaks
  • In one conversation from 2011, Doug refers to Chelsea Clinton as a 'spoiled brat kid' who 'hasn't found her way and has a lack of focus in life'
  • In another, he recounts to John Podesta and others how a top Clinton Foundation staffer tried to take her life over work pressures
  • Band suggested that Chelsea Clinton wasn't taking responsibility for her role in the colleague's mental unrest
  • Chelsea Clinton, on the other hand, suggested that Band's firm Teneo was taking advantage of its proximity to her famous father

One of Bill Clinton's closest aides, Doug Band, called Chelsea Clinton 'a spoiled brat' and suggested she wasn't concerned about leaving a senior Clinton Foundation executive close to suicide, a new crop of John Podesta's emails reveal.

On the heels of last night's second presidential debate, Wikileaks released a trove of conversations from the inbox of Hillary Clinton's campaign chairman this morning.

The new exchanges show that Band and his boss' daughter didn't always see eye to eye.

In a conversation from November 2011, which is when Chelsea Clinton stepped up to play a greater role in the Clinton Foundation, Band goes off about the former first daughter to Podesta and Cheryl Mills, Hillary Clinton's chief of staff at the State Department.

Because of Band's close relationship with President Clinton, having worked his way up from White House intern, to body man to a more senior adviser role – similar to Huma Abedin's relationship with Hillary Clinton – Band and Chelsea Clinton were seen to almost have a sibling rivalry.

'She is acting like a spoiled brat kid who has nothing else to do but create issues to justify what she's doing because she, as she has said, hasn't found her way and has a lack of focus in life,' Band wrote of Chelsea Clinton, identifying her by her initials 'CVC' higher up in the email.

Band was writing a memo trying to sort out the relationship between his new-ish international advisory firm Teneo, the Clinton Foundation and the Clinton Global Initiative, as Chelsea Clinton was seemingly irked by its coziness to her famous parents and their philanthropic endeavors.

He referenced a news story that was coming out – 'we are screwed,' Band wrote – which the Daily Caller suggested was one that highlighted the connections between Teneo and MF Global, a global commodities firm that went bankrupt in 2011.

In December 2011 the New York Post reported that Teneo had been advising MF Global, which was led by former Democratic New Jersey Gov. Jon Corzine.

Teneo was bringing in a haul of $125,000 a month at the same time MF Global was losing millions of dollars of its investors money.

'Need get this asap to them although I'm sure cvc won't believe it to be true [because] she doesn't want to. Even though the facts speak for themselves. John, I would appreciate your feedback and any suggestions,' Band writes, aiming the comment at Chelsea Clinton and asking Podesta for advice.

He goes on in the email to defend Teneo's work.

'[Deklan Kelly] and I built a business. 65 people work for us who have wives and husbands and kids, they all depend on us. Our business has almost nothing to do with the clintons, the foundation or [Clinton Global Initiative] in any way,' Band writes.

In the email, Band argues that his clients don't care about the Clintons.

'These are real companies who we provide real advice to through very serious people,' he says.

He then pounces on Chelsea Clinton.

'I realize it is difficult to confront and reason with her but this could go [too] far and then we all will have a real serious set of other problems,' Band writes. 'I don't deserve this from her and deserve a tad more respect or at least a direct dialogue for me to explain these things.'

Two days later, in another email to Podesta and others, Band tells his colleagues that he had to convince Clinton Foundation COO Laura Graham not to kill herself and blamed some of Graham's work-related stress on Chelsea Clinton – and President Clinton too.

Today Graham is senior vice president of the New York State Economic Development Corporation, having left the Clinton Foundation in 2015.

'Late last night, laura graham called me as she couldn't reach my brother or her shrink,' Band writes. 'She was on Staten Island in her car parked a few feet from the waters edge with her foot on the gas pedal and the car in park.'

'She called me to tell me the stress of all of this office crap with wjc and cvc as well as that of her family had driven her to the edge and she couldn't take it anymore.

'I spent a while on the phone with her preventing her from doing that, as I have a few times in the past few months, and was able to reach roger and her shrink.

'Bruce said the stress of specifically the office had caused his very serious health issues as you both know,' Band told his cohorts.

He then brought up Chelsea Clinton and her concerns about Teneo's relationship with the scandal-ridden MF Global again.

'But I'm sure chelsea is more concerned with a mostly false story in the distinguished ny post about mf global and teneo not her role in what happened to laura/bruce, what she is doing to the organization or the several of stories that have appeared in the ny post about her father and a multitude of women over the years,' Band says.

Band then explains to the others that it's time for his company Teneo to move a little further away from the Clintons, suggesting Bill Clinton no longer server on his firm's board.

'For teneo, well before mf global, we have been discussing this,' he continues. 'Its going to hurt teneo to have wjc on the adv bd any longer but we need come up with a reorg concept for the relationship with wjc and teneo that is lower key and handled privately and properly that we should discuss.'

'Life is [too] short so let's have a call and get this over with,' Band concludes.

In 2015, Band cut his ties further with the Clintons by leaving the board of the Clinton Foundation several months into Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign.

MY FATHER WOULD BE APPALLED TO BE ACCUSED OF HAVING 'SAME PROFIT MOTIVE AS TONY BLAIR' WROTE CHELSEA

Cashed in: Tony Blair's personal fortune since leaving office in 2007 is now put at $74 million

Chelsea Clinton wrote of her anger at the conduct of Band's Teneo holdings - and said that comparisons which were being drawn between her father and Britain's former prime minister Tony Blair would 'horrify him'.

Blair, who was at the head of the British government from 1997 until 2007, has made an estimated personal fortune of $74 million at October 2016 exchange rates, since leaving office.

Blair has long been accused of using his office to enrich himself and his family - who now have a vast property portfolio in the UK - with lucrative contracts with JP Morgan, the World Bank and a series of governments, many in the Middle East or others which have faced questions over their human rights records.

He and Bill Clinton were the two-strong 'advisory board' of Teneo holdings at the time.

But Chelsea hinted that what had been thought to be a long personal as well as political friendship between the men was not in fact the case.

In an email dated December 6, 2011, Chelsea Clinton wrote to a number of people in the Clintons' inner circle including Podesta, current Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe and others, and shared that 'two people separately' approached her in London and voiced their concerns about Teneo.

One Teneo employee apparently 'called Members of the House and Members of Parliament', 'on behalf of President Clinton,' for Teneo clients ... without my father's knowledge and inelegantly and ineffectually at best and at worse has now precipitating people in London making comparisons between my father and Tony Blair's profit motivations,' Chelsea Clinton disclosed.

'Which would horrify my father,' the former first daughter added.

'I'm speaking at an innovations in governance conference today here in Oxford and flying back later this afternoon. I will raise all of this and more with my father this evening. Wanted to update you all in the meanwhile about my augmented concerns post London and the below,' Chelsea ends her email, attaching the concerning New York Post article that says her father was collecting $50,000 a month from MF Global, through Teneo.

She asked that the story be added to her father's clips - in other words that it be given to her father to read.

CHELSEA'S ANGER AT COMPARISONS TO TONY BLAIR

This is the email Chelsea sent to John Podesta, her mother's campaign chair; Bruce Lindsey, now chairman and former CEO of the Clinton Foundation; Victoria Bjorklund, a member of its board; Jennifer Reynoso, a legal adviser who had previously conducted a review of the Foundation; and Terry McAuliffe, a long-time Clinton friend who is now governor of Virgina.

John, Bruce, Terry, Victoria, Jennifer - fyi re: below. I've asked that it make my father's clips (it wld historically not as I understand it).

On another note, I was in London Sunday and did a Foundation event Sunday evening and two people separately voiced concerns directly to me about Teneo, neither of whom I know well (one of whom is a friend of one of Marc's old colleagues, ie we know only tangentially) and Sara Latham (whom Victoria and Jennifer, I do know well - she worked for my Dad in the WH and lives in London) voiced serious concerns to Bari - including telling her Ilya has called Members of the House and Members of Parliament, 'on behalf of President Clinton,' for Teneo clients (eg for Andrew Liveris and Dow who's coming this month to London), without my father's knowledge and inelegantly and ineffectually at best and at worse has now precipitating people in London making comparisons between my father and Tony Blair's profit motivations.

Which would horrify my father.

Sara also told Bari she started working for Teneo, as Teneo, more than a year ago and then recently stopped because she was so upset, partly because of what Doug and Declan asked her to do/ pretend was happening for their clients at Davos- that's all I know.

I am hoping to connect directly with Sara this week, if only to connect her belatedly into Victoria and Jennifer.

I'm speaking at an innovations in governance conference today here in Oxford and flying back later this afternoon. I will raise all of this and more with my father this evening.

Wanted to update you all in the meanwhile about my augmented concerns post London and the below. Thank you.

Chelsea
