They haven't worked together since he quit Grey's Anatomy in 2012.

But on Saturday Eric Dane and showrunner Shonda Rhimes got into a spat on Twitter over reaction to Donald Trump's leaked lewd comments about women.

'Men, stop with ‘we have wives, daughters’ as reason not to condone his actions. You don’t condone his acts becuz you know right from wrong,' Rhimes, 46,  tweeted.

Dane, 43, seemed to take umbrage with his former boss' opinion.

He tweeted back: 'How bout this – f*** @realDonaldTrump and I could give no fux about @shondarhimes opinion. My wife and 2 girls. He needs to b b***h slapped.'

That prompted a one word response from Rhimes: 'um?'

The tweet that started it: Rhimes tweeted her opinion that men should stop saying they were anti Trump because of the women in their lives, but because it was simply the right thing to do

After several hours during which fans peppered him with tweets asking why he was feuding with Rhimes over Trump, given they both think the Republican presidential nominee's remarks were 'disgusting,' the actor returned to Twitter.

'Settle down people I luv @shondarhimes,' he tweeted. 'But @realDonaldTrump? Cmon folks, are you crazy? Are you really supporting this ass? Wake the f*** up!'

Dane, the star of TNT's The Last Ship, has been married to actress Rebecca Gayheart since 2004.

They have two daughters, Billie, six, and Georgia, four.
