The Voice star Meghan Linsey has revealed she was once sexually assaulted and then threatened by a ‘very powerful man in the music business’.

The singer opened up about her ordeal in a lengthy Facebook post on Sunday, Yahoo Music reported.

Linsey wrote the post detailing an encounter with an abusive and powerful man, who she did not name, in response to the leaked 2005 tape that showed Donald Trump making vulgar remarks about women – including claiming he could ‘grab women by the p****’ because he was a star.

She said was on tour with Steel Magnolia - a country music duo she formed with her ex-fiance Joshua Scott Jones - in 2010 when ‘a very powerful man in the music business grabbed up my skirt’.

She wrote: ‘He was groping me and proceeded to try and pick me up by my a** on a bus in front of a lot of important people.

‘I was mortified and told him not to touch me and to put me down.’

Linsey said that her response made the man ‘embarrassed and angry’.

And she said the next night, he proceeded to threaten her because of her outburst.

‘The next night, he came up behind me and whispered in my ear, he said, ‘I have boats bigger than you could ever imagine, and I could put you in the middle of the ocean where no one would ever hear from you again. Just remember that.’’

She said after making the threat, he simply laughed and walked away.

Linsey said she called her manager, who told her to never repeat the story to anyone. The head of her label said the same thing.

‘Men have done far worse to me in the past, but this was the first time I was told I couldn’t say anything because of how it would affect my career.’

She said because of how powerful he was, ‘I had to let him grab me wherever he wanted and he was allowed to threaten me.’

Linsey explained that this encounter was the reason why Trump’s comments were so distressing to her.

‘This is why it’s not just ‘locker room talk.’ Because at the end of the day, it’s not just talk.

‘This is rape culture, where powerful men sexually assault women and get away with it because of ‘who they are’.

‘Donald Trump is one of those men.’

Linsey also said that she never intended to vote for Trump, at first because she loves her African American, LGBT, Muslim and Hispanic friends – referencing groups of people the 70-year-old Republican nominee has offended during his presidential campaign.

But now, she said his lewd comments about women have made the decision more personal.

‘It made me feel like I wanted to vomit, because it reminded me of the many times I’ve been compromised as a woman,’ she said.

‘I’m tired of living in a country where 97 out of 100 rapists walk free.

‘I don’t want a president who perpetuates rape culture and sets the already skewed standard for how men are allowed to treat women.

‘Real men don’t talk like that, real men don’t sexually assault and rape women. Period.’
