Helena Bonham Carter sports her trademark kooky style as she joins amicable ex Tim Burton and children Billy, 11, and Nell, 7 on family walk

They split after 13 years together in 2014.

But Helena Bonham Carter and her ex husband Tim Burton show how well they are getting on as they enjoyed a family day out in London with their two children - Billy, 11, and Nell, seven - on Sunday.

The 50-year-old actress worked an off duty look in a black ankle grazing floral tea dress as she joined her former director beau for a spot of shopping.

Helena teamed her kooky number with an oversized charcoal grey trench.

The Alice In Wonderland star hit the pavement in a pair of black trainers and brown socks as she sported a cross body brown satchel while holding her daughter's hand.

Sweeping her locks on top of her head into a messy bun, Helena worked a minimal make-up look as she kept her fringe in place with her black framed glasses.

Walking alongside his former love, Tim worked a similar causal look in a pair of dark denims, black overcoat and blue shirt.

Despite the cloud in the sky, the famed film maker sported a pair of retro inspired circular black shades as he walked in front of their two children. 

Helena and Tim got together in 2001 after he cast her in Planet Of The Apes.

They went on to make six further films together, including Big Fish, Corpse Bride, Charlie And The Chocolate Factory, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street, Alice In Wonderland and Dark Shadows.

The pair famously didn't marry during their relationship and unconventionally lived in two adjoining houses in London with their two children. 

Helena previously admitted she struggled during her pregnancies, revealing that she and Burton had been trying for a baby for two years and considered IVF before conceiving naturally.

Speaking to Harper's Bazaar magazine earlier this year following their split she admitted wanted to put 'handle with care' tape across her forehead because she felt so fragile and described the process as going through 'massive grief'.

She explained: 'Just saying: 'I'm not myself at the moment, so be careful.'

'Everyone always says you have to be strong and have a stiff upper lip, but it's okay to be fragile.'

But the Oscar-nominated actress revealed she hasn't ruled out another collaboration with her ex, as she revealed: 'It might be easier to work together without being together any more. He always only cast me with great embarrassment.'
