Aldi is hoping to attract style-conscious shoppers with a new fashion range it promises will help you get the Chelsea look for under £20.

The budget store, which looks set to rival Lidl in the sartorial stakes, says its new collection of on-trend, autumnal 70s-inspired fashion pieces will lure fashion fans on a budget.

With prices starting from just £1.99 and not going above £20, Aldi says the range takes on high-street rivals such as H&M and Next thanks to a saving of up to 60 per cent.

'The range offers customers the chance to update their wardrobe with quality on-trend essentials at amazing value prices,' say the brand.

But is it easy to spot the budget garments from high-end versions? Or can money really buy style? We've pitted Aldi's new autumn range against pricier pieces to find out.

The autumn fashion range, which includes both men's and women's clothes, has taken its cues from the British countryside and consists of quilted jackets (£16.99), Chelsea boots (£14.99), and a faux fur gilet (£14.99).

There's also value accessories such as a felt hat (£7.99) and men's belts (£4.99) within the range.

Speaking about the new offering, a spokesperson for the high-street retailer said: 'Shoppers are looking to update their wardrobes at this time of the year and we’ve tapped into the latest high-street trends to offer our customers a great-value range that doesn’t compromise on style.'

There's plenty of similar styles from brands such as AX Paris, Karl Lagerfeld, French Connection and BCB Generation.

Aldi's new range comes after the thrifty store released a basic set for boys and girls of any age for just £4 - the lowest priced supermarket uniform in the UK.

The package included two polo shirts, one round neck jumper and either a pair of trousers or a skirt.

As well as trousers, skirts, and sweaters, the uniform range also included scuff-resistant shoes, socks and tights as well as PE kits and backpacks.

In Aldi’s uniform range, part of the retailer’s Specialbuys, a round neck sweater costs just £1.25, a two-pack of plain polo shirts is £1.25 and a school skirt or pair of trousers is £1.50.
