She was left red-faced in July when a New York City Uber driver failed to recognise her.

But on Monday, a beaming Lorde, 19, looked to be in good spirits as she was greeted by onlookers while making her way to a Manhattan studio.

The Royals hitmaker had no problem being recognised by fans, despite stepping out in casual attire.

Sporting blue boyfriend jeans and a black turtleneck sweater, the New Zealand-born pop star looked every inch the low-key celebrity as she cheerfully waved to onlookers.

The brunette beauty, born Ella Yelich-O'Connor, paired the look with brown platform sandals and a black satchel as she clutched a laptop and her iphone.

Her long locks were swept up in a low ponytail and she appeared to be makeup-free as she shielded her eyes from the sun with brown designer shades.

Lorde has spent a great deal of time in the US in recent months, where she is believed to be working on new music.

In July, the Grammy award-winning musician live tweeted the hilariously awkward moment that an unsuspecting Uber driver failed to recognize her. 

As she hitched a ride to a studio, she went completely unnoticed by her driver, who inadvertently added salt to the wound by boasting about having just picked up a 'celebrity passenger.'

'Uber driver currently busting a nut about the fact that there was a 'celebrity passenger' just before me,' she tweeted to her four million followers.

'I can tell our ride, by comparison, sparkles significantly less for him.'

She continued her hilarious series of live tweets, adding: 'i can feel it from the back seat, his dazed glow. he's probably now pretending that i am not here, that they are still together, and alone.'

Uber took a tongue-in-cheek approach to its response: '@lorde he's probably never seen a diamond in the flesh.'

While responses from her fans were overwhelmingly positive, with many joining the Kiwi native in laughing it off, one Twitter user suggested that she was simply being a diva.

'Hmmm, a bit "Don't you know who I am?" eh, Lorde,' the fan tweeted to which she replied: 'pssh as if, i'm not deluded about my very minor demographic-specific recognition it was just a funny moment.'

Pop star Ellie Goulding also found humour in Lorde's awkward encounter and went on to share her own experience with Uber.

'Mine said he had someone from Ellie Gouldings band in earlier. But didn't like her music soooo,' Ellie shared to which Lorde replied 'i just winced.'

While the brunette beauty proved that she does not take her fame status too seriously, she has been known to occasionally use her star power to help the less fortunate.

Earlier this year, she donated NZ$20,000 (AU$19,100) to a charity aiming to feed hungry kids in her native New Zealand.

The teenage star sent the donation to Fuel the Need via crowdfunding site Givealittle under her real name Ella Yelich-O'Connor.  

The charity aims to get school lunches to 50 children who otherwise wouldn't be fed, with each meal costing $3 and the project needing $30,000 over a school year. 

It has been two years since Lorde released her first studio album Pure Heroine, which peaked at number one in Australia, NZ and the U.S. and sold more than four million copies.
