- Stylish, easy to fold away and good quality sound
- Canvass-style coating on connector ensures durability
- Solid acoustics with a meaty low end thump - particularly at middle-range amplitudes
- Poor quality packaging and headphone 'shell' jars with overall image
Price: £79.99 / $128 (RRP)
Rating:
In the current headphone market, quality sound is rarely enough. Consumers are demanding both fashion and function, and that's where the iLuv headphones come in.
Daring: The iLuvs are designed to make a statement
Coated with a material made to look like denim and boasting chunky ear cups, the iLuvs wouldn't look out of place on even the most garish of fashionistas.
Thankfully, there's plenty of style behind the substance,
too. The cups are comfortable enough to stave off ear fatigue, while the
canvass exterior makes the connecting wire feel durable.
Unfortunately, not all areas have had as much TLC. For example, although collapsible, there's no ignoring the iLuv's unattractive plastic casing. The inner lining, too, although designed for comfort, looks somewhat stuck on.
Where the iLuvs do deliver though is in the sound
department. Boasting 'dynamic bass' that's always there whatever the amplitude,
there's decent low end thump.
Distortion is kept at a minimum, while sound
insulation - although not perfect, adequately blots out core unwanted noise.
Pitches can sound slightly tinny, meaning that soundstage is somewhat lost at
low volume.
That being said, instruments are clearly defined across
all genres - the iLuvs even holding up well against the technically demanding Vivaldi's Four Seasons. Music can be stopped at a touch of the remote (built into the connector), also allowing volume control on the move.
Price wise, the iLuvs come in at £79.99, making them a much cheaper alternative to Beats. And, apart from a few minor gripes, sound quality almost matches them, too.
They are compatible with Apple products including the iPhone, iPad and iPod.

Mixed bag: There's no doubt that styling is strong, but the iLuvs are let down by some poor quality plastic
