Love Island kicked off in late May and ran till July, with various couples voted off throughout the show before Nathan Massey and Cara De La Hoyde were eventually crowned champions.

As the pair walked away with £50,000 prize money, in their wake they left runner-up couples Olivia Buckland and Alex Bowen alongside Scott Thomas and Kady McDermott.

Nathan and Cara are reportedly set to lead their co-stars in reuniting for the festive-themed episode in which they will be united following their explosive summer of steamy and angry antics.

An insider told The Sun: 'The whole project is currently in pre-production but there’s a real buzz around the idea. It’s just a case of working out the logistics with schedules and locations.'

Following the airing of the scenes, a spokesperson for TV regulatory body Ofcom released a statement blasting the scenes airing so close to the 9PM watershed.

The comment read: 'This programme included sexual material shortly after the watershed. We’re investigating whether the transition to more adult content was unduly abrupt.'

Other relationships to survive the show include Rykard Jenkins and Rachel Fenton alongside Sophie Gradon and Tom Powell.
