He told Entertainment Tonight on the red carpet: 'We do our best. We try our best.'

Ben, who said that he hangs up the children's 'drawings and art' in his trailer, added that while they share the load, he isn't so great when it comes to helping with the homework.

'My areas of expertise with the kids [are] spotty at best,' the actor confessed. 'Not homework. I only play an accountant in the movie. In real life, I'm badly wanting.'

Earlier that day the ex-couple had been seen together after taking Violet, 10, Seraphina, seven, and Samuel, four to school.

But Jennifer was enjoying a solo outing in Santa Monica, California on Tuesday after dropping off her daughters.

The Miracles From Heaven star had been looking after the children last week while Ben was promoting The Accountant in New York City ahead of its release this Friday.

Earlier this year, Jennifer took the brood to Europe so that the youngsters could be with their father while he filmed Justice League, in which he is reprising his role as Batman.

'It has to be [a good relationship], you don't have a choice,' she said during an appearance on the Today show in August. 'We are definitely a modern family. We're doing really well.'

She added: 'Ben was working in London on Justice League, and I thought, "Well, the kids should have that experience." He and I are great friends, and we all just went en masse.'

And Ben said on Monday that he is already excited for the film's release.

'It's fun, in one word,' he told Entertainment Tonight. 'I hope you like it, I think it's gonna be a lot of fun.'
