The mother of Cathriona White has filed a lawsuit against Jim Carrey in the Superior Court of the State of California, less than a month after White's estranged husband Mark Burton filed a similar suit.
Brigid Sweetman claims that the 'abuse' her daughter suffered at the hands of Carrey led to her suicide in September of last year and is seeking damages in the case as well as a jury trial.
'Jim Carrey should be ashamed of what he did to my daughter. And he should be ashamed for how he has used his Hollywood attorneys to badmouth Cat’s husband Mark with the hope that nobody will hold him responsible for what he did,' said Sweetman in statement after filing the suit.
'As a family, we want the world to know the truth about who Jim Carrey really is – a man that will give your daughter three STDs, lie about it, call her terrible names and demean her, use his high priced lawyers to try and shut her and her family up, and then give her illegal drugs.
'Every mother and father that has a daughter should read Cat’s handwritten letter to Jim and decide for themselves what kind of guy he really is.'
Sweetman also dismisses Carrey's denial about giving her daughter STDs, claiming in court papers that he tested positive in a test taken on January 28, 2013, and that he gave a false name at the time - Jose Lopez.
Getting legal: Cathriona White's mother Brigid Sweetman (above with her daughter) has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Jim Carrey
Happier times: Mark Burton is also suing Jim Carrey for the wrongful death of Cathriona White (White above with Carrey in May 2015)
Allegation: Burton (above), who was White's estranged husband at the time of her death, also claims in an amended complaint that Carrey gave White sexually transmitted diseases
'At the time of her death, White had been engaged in an on again, off again sexual relationship with Carrey. This relationship was punctuated by White learning in early 2013 from a doctor that Carrey had given White three sexually transmitted diseases - Herpes Type 1, Herpes Type 2 and Chlamydia,' states the court filing.
The papers go on to say: 'To make matters worse, after Ms. White confronted Carrey about his egregious conduct, he manipulated her, shamed her, exploited her, threatened her and used his handlers and attorneys to silence her.
'This was "pure evil," "heartless," "despicable," "abhorrent," and "outrageous."'
Sweetman claims in the filing that he daughter was so 'frightened' of Carrey and his handlers that she eventually agreed to sign papers forcing her to keep quiet about the STDs she received from the actor.
'However, Ms. White continued to struggle emotionally with what Carrey had done and how he manipulated and pressured her, even in the months and days leading to her death,' claims Sweetman in her filing.
'This ultimately was a significant cause of Ms. White ending her life.'
Almost all of the claims being made by Sweetman in her lawsuit are similar to the ones being made by Burton in his, which was filed in September.
She has also submitted her daughter's text messages with Carrey as exhibits, as well as a letter White wrote the actor after their split.
Sweetman is also being represented by the same lawyer as Burton.
'The lies from Jim Carrey and his handlers need to stop. Instead of attacking a grieving family in an effort to avoid responsibility, why don’t they just try telling the truth about how Carrey gave Cat the STDs and then gave her the illegal drugs? Unlike Hollywood handlers, lab results do not lie,' said attorney Michael Avenatti in a statement.
A rep for Carrey did not respond to Dailymail.com request for comment. Jim Carrey's lawyer told TMZ that White had a broken relationship with her mother, they were estranged for years Sweetman is directing her grief and rage at Carrey.
Burton claims in his lawsuit that Carrey broke up with White just hours after she informed him she would be going in for a sexually transmitted disease test - and has included texts between the two as evidence.
Those are not the only texts that have been submitted with the filing either, with others showing how even after the break-up White wrote of nothing but her love and respect for Carrey.
The actor on the other hand is seen in the submitted texts repeatedly asking White to sign a contract after the split, which Burton claims in his suit was meant to ensure that she would not sue the Hollywood star for allegedly infecting her with STDs.
A revived complaint submitted in late September also includes a letter that White wrote to Carrey in 2013 describing herself as 'damaged goods' after she learned she had contracted the diseases.
In that letter White also writes that she has been made to feel 'disrespected, degraded, called a whore, an opportunist, threatened' and like an 'ungrateful b****.'
This traumatic episode played a part in triggering White's suicide claims Burton in his complaint, which also accuses Carrey of providing the prescription drugs White used to overdose in September 2015.
Carrey said in a statement at the time: 'Is this the way a "husband" honors the memory of his "wife?" The real disease here is greed, shameful greed!'

Less than four hours after White told Carrey she was free of STDs before their relationship he allegedly broke up with her (texts above from court papers)
Carrey closed out the alleged break-up text by telling White she was 'too much drama' (texts above from court papers)
The complaint states that White first began to notice symptoms of what could be a sexually transmitted disease in January of 2013 and texted Carrey, who replied: 'Aggravated folacles [sic] or bumps are normal when you shave or have vigorous sex.'
In a text sent the following month White again wrote to Carrey about finding 'a couple of bumps' and wanting to go get it 'checked' claims the complaint, which also includes screenshots of the text messages between the two.
Carrey writes back a brief message saying that he hopes White will be 'OK' and to enjoy a shoot she is working on.
White then appears to become more nervous, responding to a text sent from Carrey by writing: 'I understand your [sic] worried. Imagine how I am feeling right now. I am the one who should be freaking out.'
She then states that she is sure the bumps are 'just the abrasion thing [Carey] was talking about.'
Carrey responds to this by writing: 'I hope your [sic] ok hun. It could be from someone before me. Doesn't show up until you're really stressed.'
He then adds that 'it should be fine though.'
Burton claims in his complaint however that White was tested just before she began dating Carrey, so the STDs could not have come from another man.
When White then told Carrey this fact he 'inexplicably' ended their relationship within hours according to the complaint.
'I've come to an end,' wrote Carrey.
White responds to this with a lengthy reply admitting that Carrey has been good to her, but adding: 'I too have been put through unimaginable stress and suffering and Pending what happens on Friday I won't be able to have another relationship ever again.
'I am hurting more than anything right now.'
In that message she also references a contract that Carrey had asked her to sign, which Burton in his lawsuit claims was given to White by the actor so that she could not file a suit against him after learning he had given her STDs.
Carrey responds to this by telling White: 'K don't want to talk anymore. Deal with linda. Im done. You have become too much drama.'
He then added: 'Keep in mind the things i'm doing ard [sic] out of kindness. They are not obligations.'
Carrey texts once more after that as well, writing: 'I don't wish to talk anymore.'
Carrey allegedly pur pressure on White to sign a contract so she would not sue him for getting STDs from him according to the complaint (texts above from court papers)
White is still very much in love with Carrey after their split the texts show (texts above from court papers)
Carrey allegedly talks about White being dramatic again while she expresses her frustrations (texts above from court papers)
Soon after that, White learned she had contracted Herpes Type 1, Herpes Type 2 and gonorrhea, and Burton claims that led to Carrey 'exerted' pressure on her to sign the document he gave her in his complaint.
Texts sent in mid-March show Carrey repeatedly telling White to 'hurry up' and sign the contract, with the young woman plainly voicing how much she misses the actor.
After calling her a 'jerk' in one exchange, White writes: 'I haven't given the papers to [Carrey's assistant] Linda because I couldn't look at them. I couldn't do anything other than to look at Twitter every god damn day just to know you're doing okay.'
She writes in a later text, after Carrey tells her she is 'gonna blow' their friendship by taking so long to sign the documents: 'I wake up and go to sleep hoping your [sic] doing good. I didn't even think your attention was on it in the slightest.'
She then adds: 'I am out of site. I am staying quite [sic]. I am being invisible. I no longer matter.'
Carrey responds to this by calling White 'ungrateful' and 'overly dramatic.'
In addition to the texts, White's letter to Carrey is also included, in which she struggled to deal with allegedly contracting STDs from the actor.
She started off by writing how she did not get what she wanted out of the relationship, and how if her lawyer had their way she would be getting plenty of money from the actor.
White wrote however that this is not what she wanted though, and was instead looking for something much more simple.
'I wanted an apology, to be acknowledged and to respect me enough to take responsibility.
'To say "I gave you this, intentional or not, I gave it to you I understand that this is something that will affect you for the rest of your life, your future relationships (or lack of because of this) what can make this right?"' wrote White.
'Instead of that, I was disrespected, degraded, called a whore, an opportunist, threatened our relationship belittled. Even had that girl T straight up lie in a letter under oath.
'And I really don’t think you can see. Like it's not an issue to you. I’m just an ungrateful b**** who you done so much for and I took advantage. That simply is not true.
'God can see that and can see how much love I have for you.'
White closed out the letter by writing: 'Be good to yourself. I will always have love in my heart for you. I pray that you are content and have peace in your life and in your soul.'
She then signed the note 'Your Dewdrop!'

White still lovingly signed the letter to Carrey 'Your Dewdrop' (letter above from court papers)
Burton said in a statement last month: 'I will not continue to stand idly by while Mr. Carrey and his handlers deceive the world about what they did to Cat.'
He then added that people would soon get to know about 'the real Jim Carrey and his treatment of women,' urging other ladies to come forward with their stories about the actor.
Carrey is being represented by Marty Singer in the case, who told TMZ that the STD claims being made by Burton are 'categorically disputed.'
He also called the lawsuit the 'desperate, bogus claim made by the "husband" of the sham marriage.'
Singer alleges that White only married Burton for a green card, and he has multiple witnesses who will confirm this to the court.
Furthermore, he points out that White and Carrey reunited in 2014, and were together until just a few weeks before her death.
The lawyer also reiterated his previous claim that Carrey will not settle with Burton.
