CoverGirl has just revealed that they are bringing on their very first male spokesmodel - and he just might look a bit familiar.

YouTuber and make-up artist James Charles of Bethlehem, New York, came to the world's attention earlier this year when he went viral after retaking his senior pictures with his own lighting to make sure his 'highlight would be poppin'.

The pictures proved so popular that 17-year-old James has amassed a huge online following and has now been revealed as the latest face for the cosmetics company by fellow spokesmodel, singer Katy Perry.

The Roar singer shared a snap from a shoot showing herself with one arm around the immaculately made-up teen and her other holding up her adorable dog Butters.

'Honored to have the pleasure to announce the very first COVERBOY, James Charles!' the pop singer wrote in the caption of the photo.

James only began experimenting with make-up one year ago, but is now starting his new role by modelling CoverGirl's So Lashy! mascara brand for upcoming ads.

In a release for the announcement, the brand explained how James fit perfectly into their long line of famous CoverGirls for being a 'boundary-breaker' and 'using transformative, dynamic makeup looks to showcase the many facets of his personality.'

And that personality already has a huge number of fans. In his one year of sharing his looks on Instagram, James has racked up over 400,000 followers.

Some of that following has amassed in the last month after James went viral with his senior high school photos, which he had redone after deciding that his highlighter didn't 'pop' enough in the originals.

So, he contacted the photography company and asked to have his picture re-done with his own lighting. They obliged.

James said he would not normally be so fussy, but as his senior picture he 'knew it would be in the yearbook forever' and wanted it to look 'iconic'.

He added: 'I’m actually a pretty reserved person, I promise.

'When I say I’m extra it usually just comes to my makeup looks being extravagant, and I’m also never afraid to drag a local boy when he’s being rude on Twitter.'

He was so happy with the results that he shared them on Twitter and Instagram, where they have been liked and shared by tens of thousands.
