James Franco shows caring side as he poses with young In Dubious Battle co-star Lola Sultan at Mill Valley Film Festival

James Franco has been featured in television and film for nearly two decades.

So he definitely is the right person to show his latest young co-star how to handle a red carpet.  

The 38-year-old actor was joined by his young In Dubious Battle co-star Lola Sultan at the Mill Valley Film Festival on Sunday.

He adorably put his hand around the young star as they posed on the red carpet of the event held at Mill Valley, California.

No doubt Lola was soaking in the moment with her A-list castmate as she flashed a big smile as they made their way to Cinearts theater at Sequoia. 

James looked dapper in a navy suit over a white dress shirt and black tie.

He finished off the look with a pair of black leather dress shoes which matched with his Ray-Ban wayfarer shades.

In Dubious Battle is a film based on the 1936 John Steinbeck novel of the same name.

It is centred around an activist who gets entangled into a labour movement regarding farm workers in California during the Thirties.

James plays Mac McLeod in the film, who is the party organiser and mentor of main character Jim Nolan  - played by Nat Wolff - who drives the narrative of the tale.

It also features an all-star cast including: Bryan Cranston, Selena Gomez, Robert Duvall, Ed Harris, Vincent D'Onofrio, Ahna O'Reilly, Analeigh Tipton, Jack Kehler and Scott Haze. 

In Dubious Battle has been screened at film festivals in Italy, France and Canada but still has no official release date in the US or UK.
