He is a matinee idol with an acting resume to rival some of Hollywood's greatest legends.

But movie star George Clooney is getting behind the camera once again as he directs his new film Suburbicon in Los Angeles.

The 55-year-old was seen on set with stars of the movie Julianne Moore and Matt Damon as they filmed a funeral scene on Tuesday.

Clooney, who has directed five previous films including The Ides of March, looked in his element as he shots scenes for the period mystery.

Damon, 46, looked to have beefed up for the role while wearing a funeral black suit and a matching fedora.

Clinging to his arm was Moore, 55, who looked to be weeping while wearing a dark and somber outfit.

He knows how to work with talent: Clooney, who has directed five previous films including The Ides of March, looked in his element as he shots scenes for the period mystery

The film is written and produced by Oscar winning duo Joel and Ethan Coen, with Clooney not only directing but co-producing.

The crime mystery is set in a seemingly quiet town in the 1950s, but like all Coen Brothers films there is a seething underbelly just beneath the surface of the communities picture perfect appearance.

The story centers on a home invasion that turns deadly, and a seemingly ordinary family turns to blackmail, revenge and betrayal.

Damon has not only starred with Clooeny in the Ocean's 11 film franchise but also acted under his direction in Monuments Men.
