Despite being royalty it isn't often that you will spot a queen or princess in a tiara so Queen Mathilde's glittering headpiece is sure to be a sight for sore eyes.

The queen of Belgium stepped out in a dazzling tiara packed with 200 diamonds as she joined husband King Philippe, 56, for a state dinner in Tokyo.

All eyes were sure to be on the 43-year-old royal as she arrived at the ceremonial occasion in Japan's capital.

The mother-of-four looked resplendent in a floor length bronze gown complete with intricate embroidery and a ceremonial sash.

Keeping her hair out of her face in order to showcase her dazzling smile the queen opted for a polished chignon for the event. 

But of course the star of the show was the dazzling Wolfers necklace tiara that Mathilde sported tonight.

Mathilde wore the Wolfers necklace tiara decorated with 200 diamonds and originally worn by Belgium's late Queen Fabiola

The glistening headpiece was Originally worn by the late Queen Fabiola after it was given to her as a wedding present.

The versatile jewellery can also be worn as a necklace and was crafted by Belgium jewellers Wolfers.

If there was ever an occasion to wear the fine hairpiece it was tonight where the royal couple joined other dignitaries for their gala.

The royal couple arrived in Japan yesterday and their visit marks 150 years of ties between their two countries. 

Earlier today the Belgian queen sported a more autumnal look stepping out in a floral print skirt and a felt hat adorned with autumn leaves.

The king and queen met with Emperor Akihito and his wife Empress Michiko who accompanied them to the welcome ceremony at the Imperial Palace.

During their first day of their state visit Mathilde and Philipe visited the Nezu Shrine in Bunkyō.

Earlier that day the queen had another change of clothes as she was spotted in a midnight blue flock dress as she arrived at the Embassy of Belgium.
