That's my boy! David Walliams's mum Kathleen struggles to contain her pride as she watches comedian son meet the Queen at awards ceremony

His comedic skills have won him legions of fans and helped land him jobs on such shows as ratings juggernaut Britain's Got Talent.

And David Walliams appeared to give his mother Kathleen another reason to beam with pride as she watched him meet Queen Elizabeth II in London on Tuesday night.

The 45-year-old funnyman bowed and shook hands with the monarch during a reception and awards ceremony at the Royal Academy of Arts - and his proud parent was on hand to watch the friendly exchange.

Displaying her snazzy sense of style in a flattering textured purple dress, Kathleen beamed up at her son as his brush with royalty unfolded.

The festivities saw the monarch present awards to five individuals who have made a national contribution to the visual arts or architecture.

And, making the most of the experience, Kathleen also got to mingle with some of the other stars in attendance on the glittering night - including rocker Rod Stewart.

David took to Twitter to share a shot of his mother sharing an affectionate hug with the newly-knighted musician.

'My mum was very pleased to meet Sir @rodstewart,' he captioned the image.

For his big night out on the town, former Little Britain star David cut a dapper figure, stepping out in a perfectly tailored navy suit.

Queen Elizabeth was her usual stylish self, arriving at the gala sporting an exquisite jacquard two-piece cream suit.

Also attending the event were such stars as actor Richard E. Grant and comedian Lenny Henry, with all gathering at the event for a series of glam snapshots.

Earlier this year, Kathleen made something of a name for herself, when she stepped in as a judge on Britain's Got Talent, filling in for late-running Simon Cowell.

After leaving the audience in fits of laughter with her quick wit, fans took to social media in droves to request that Kathleen become a permanent fixture on the show.
