Not only was the show spoiled for eastern states viewers- this meant the result was revealed two hours before the programme went to air in Perth and 30 minutes before it ran in Adelaide.

Disgruntled viewers took to social media to vent their frustration.

'Can't believe they gave it away. Can't be bothered watching now!' Nikki Stroud wrote.

'Was watching but might switch to a rival channel now since you've announced the outcome,' said another Facebook user.

However some commenters suggested that Channel 9 posted the result to encourage people to watch the show, with the knowledge someone had won the ultimate prize.

'It made me watch so all u sooks can switch the channel and I will watch for you,' wrote Kate Forwood.

The television quiz show, which is hosted by Eddie McGuire, has six contestants, who are afforded three collective 'passes' for difficult questions - the equivalent of a 'lifeline' from the original format of the show.

If a contestant answers incorrectly, they are eliminated and the next contestant steps in to continue on, with the top prize taken down a rung.
