A new mother has performed an impressive dance in which she pirouettes, leaps and even does the splits while simultaneously carrying her nine-month-old baby.

Shané Reyneke, 26, created the impressive mother and baby dance as a dedication to her journey with her daughter since giving birth and becoming a mother for the first time.

The pilates instructor and dancer, from Cape Town, South Africa, shared the video on YouTube in which she said she was training to be a dance teacher when she became pregnant.

But after the birth she decided to take a break from dancing to spend time with her new baby.

She said dancing with a wrap - so that her daughter is attached to the front of her body as she dances - has 'changed my life'.

The video, which starts on an exercise ball nuzzling her baby, features Shané performing a contemporary dance in a studio which incorporates her daughter as well as pirouettes, low-lying leaps and the splits.

Shané, whose daughter appears un-bothered by the movement and does not cry or make any noise during the dance, said: 'It's been such a full journey dancing with her, enjoying life with her...

'This dance was about my journey with her. The song's called I Want To Be Honest and that's the journey of a mom, you need to be honest.'

She added: 'It's a beautiful journey, it's awesome, but it's a steep learning curve and you need support and you need help and doing this dance with her signifies to me that awesome journey with my little girl.'

She told US-based Facebook group Breastfeeding Mama Talk, where her video has been viewed by thousands, that at first she felt 'quite overwhelmed' by the birth of her daughter.

Shané said wearing her baby helped her to feel a 'new found freedom', breastfeeding improved and that her daughter was 'much calmer and happier'.

She said her dance aimed to reflect that journey.

'I have experienced that often we share about the lovely things involved in our journey as parents, but not so much the harder, deeper things.

'Through this dance I felt I could share some of my journey in an honest way.

'Yes my little girl and I have an amazing bond and we laugh and cuddle and dance, but we also share days where we are beyond tired, uncertain, sad and even scared,' she said.
